Our story

Why I built WellFinder.

Most people know they can claim physiotherapy or massage. I didn't know how much further that coverage actually went — until one Pilates receipt changed how I thought about my benefits entirely.

My wellness journey has always been about curiosity, experimentation, and learning what helps me feel my best. I see wellness as maintenance — a collection of small choices that support the person I want to become.

It started with a single clinical Pilates session. It was billed straight through my physiotherapy benefit, and I didn't pay a cent out of pocket. That was the moment I realized there was a whole world of wellness treatments hiding under insurance categories I never would have thought to check.

From there, I started looking beyond the usual massage and physio claims. Cosmetic acupuncture with my naturopath before my wedding, speech therapy while preparing for interviews, facial massage with an osteopath, glutathione and vitamin B injections through my naturopath — treatment after treatment, I kept finding coverage in places I hadn't expected. Many of these were covered under my own extended health benefits without me ever realizing it.

But the treatment was only ever half the problem. The hard part was finding the right practitioner — hours spent searching, reading reviews, calling clinics, asking questions, and discovering hidden gems mostly through friends. I started keeping notes just so I wouldn't have to redo that work every time. Then friends started asking me to share the list.

That's when I realized something bigger: most Canadians never use the full extent of their health benefits, simply because they don't know what's covered or where to go. WellFinder exists to close that gap — to turn what used to be my personal spreadsheet into something anyone can search.

01

The discovery

A clinical Pilates session, billed as physiotherapy, with nothing out of pocket. The first sign that extended health benefits covered far more than I assumed.

02

The spreadsheet

Every new treatment and clinic went into a running list — what it was billed as, what it cost, and where I went. Friends started asking for copies.

03

Realizing the bigger gap

Most people never use all of their health benefits, not because they don't want to, but because the categories are confusing and the right providers are hard to find.

04

Building WellFinder

The personal list became a searchable directory — and now, a platform aiming to help any Canadian understand and use what their plan already covers.

The mission

Find the right treatment. Understand your insurance. Connect with the right clinic.
